Trump wants us to believe that the presidency is all-powerful. It ain’t true. Political power in our democracy overlaps between local, state, and federal electeds. Our power comes from our ability to be a source of support (or a pain in the ass) to those electeds. We can use this power to get them to stand up to Trump 2.0 or face political consequences.

Our job is to push our Senators and Representatives into fighting form.
Maintaining lockstep opposition to Trump is crucial — any Democratic support at all will give him cover to portray his gruesome policies as “bipartisan.” Remember, it was lockstep Democratic opposition to the MAGA agenda — including attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act — in 2017 that defeated some bills and built the narratives that helped a Blue Wave retake the House in 2018.
That means our job is to support, cheerlead, or berate our Democratic Representative and Senators to be active fighters for every battle we fight on the Trump agenda. That work should be loud and public — whether positive or negative. We deserve champions in Washington who don’t just refuse to go along, but actively, passionately make the case against Project 2025 — let our representatives know we expect it of them.

The original bill was stalled in the Senate since last spring, but now Republicans are back to trying to stop millions from participating in the midterm elections. They have introduced two new versions of their notorious SAVE Act, and we need to get loud and reject this anti-democratic push NOW.

Republicans in Congress passed the bill to strip working families of $1.5 trillion in Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs—all to pay for more than $4.5 trillion in tax breaks for the super-rich.
Here’s just some of the terrible things in the bill:
Massive cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that would leave 15 million people without healthcare
Denying food assistance to more than 11 million people
Attacks on the trans community by banning gender affirming care from being covered by Medicaid or as an essential health benefit for ACA insurance plans
Decimated access to reproductive healthcare by defunding Planned Parenthood and banning ACA plans from covering abortion care
Higher costs of home utility bills because of cuts to clean energy investments
Skyrocking costs of college by eliminating student loan programs and slashing Pell Grant funding
